I snapped a few pictures of the work I was doing friday in the foyer. Nothing major just a little door trim work to finish up.

I still have a lot of work to do on the stairs....but I came up with what I consider to be a clever idea for replacing the hinges.

See, we're not big fans of brass. So we're switching everything out to be silver. But when I went to home depot the only hinges I could find that had 4 holes in them for the screws weren't the same size as what I was taking out.
That meant that not only would I have to chip out some jamb to make them fit....but I"d have to drill new screw holes (which I thought might weaken the over all strength.

So here was my idea (which came to me because of a computer case mod I did a long time ago). Color the hinges. Seriouly...it's not like anyone's going to notice, or touch them. I guess you could use spray paint, but I think using the pen I had already was easier, and I didn't have to worry about painting over moving parts.

And last but not least...I made a video of the new smoke alarms we put up. Stupid really...but they have this cool feature now where when they go off a light turns on. It's not really bright, but in the middle of the night they'd be more than enough. Turn your speakers down if you listen to it.
