Oil changes are a rip off
So I received a notice from Schaumburg Honda yesterday, to let me now that my car was due for an oil change.
oh. really.
Let's not forget the outcome the last two times I brought it in for service at that exact dealership.
Time two
Time one Well anyways, I've always know that today's engines are designed and build to not need oil changes as often as we are lead to believe, but I've never taken the time or effort to actually check my manual. Well yesterday I did. Schaumburg Honda thinks I need an oil change every 3 months. Honda...you know, the people who actually built my car, recommend an oil change ever 7,500 miles OR 12 months. That's a pretty big difference wouldn't you think?

didn't you buy your car after mine? yeesh, i'm barely past 40k...then again I don't have to drive 2 hours to visit family and such.
On the bright side, that probably means you've recouped your value in saved gas. yay you! :)

Yep, I did buy the car after you bought yours. What kills me is the car's value is still decent even with that many miles on it. Woo for hybrid technology!

I think it's strange how dealerships determine their maintenance recommendations. The dealership I bought my car from (Pauley Honda in Libertyville) first told me every 7.5K miles for oil changes. After I brought my car in the first time for an oil change there, they told me that since it's a hybrid, I should get my oil change every 10K instead. I've been following that schedule every since.
The dealership that I get service from in Milwaukee (David Hobbs Honda) does have an awesome service team, but swears that I need to get an oil change every 5K. I don't think so!
BTW, I am up to over 105K miles on my car now.
