automatic weapons and boundless love

I feel like wet dog crap. There is just to much work to do to be this sick. I can only hope that this doesn't turn into bronchitis. Usually I get hella sick around this time of year w/ that crap. Whatever. I can deal with that, but what I want to know is what the fuck is up with the pool of sweat I woke up in? I mean dude....it was like I took a t-shirt right out of the washing machine and put it on. Nasty... - This was on slashdot earlier, but I saw it yesterday and just haven't posted it yet. City Manager of Tuttle, OK threatens the CentOS guys w/ the FBI. Wow....
I'd post more, but seriously I need to go lay back down....

Lucky me...

So it seems I was lucky enough to get home just in time to enjoy a little souvineer I brought back. A cold. God this sucks... What also sucks is I beat F.E.A.R last night Damn that went by quickly, I mean it might just be me but it seems that it went by to fast. The game was hella good, but damn... I tried playing some multiplayer online, but I pretty much ended up being cannon fodder. I think it's been to long for me to be any good anymore. Moving on, Nick sent me this link last week while I was in training complaining of being bored. I haven't had time to watch it until now...It's called "the truth behind 9/11". No matter what you think, it's very interesting. I highly recommend finding the hour and a half to watch it. Now for something a little lighter:
- Spinners go high tech. Ya know, I remember reading about something like this a while ago on the make website...I think originally it was for burning man or something like that. - I don't remember these Izuzu commercials at all from the 80's, but if they are real they are very impressive. - A flying motorcyle. Oh yes please....once they clean up the apperance of course.

Worlds coolest, completely useless, pen

So last week before I left for Oakland, CA, Jen and I were over at a friends house. And she showed us the new "cool gift" in the PR world. It's a pen called the acrobat, and basically it's just a really cheap pen with a cool design....but for some reason the damn thing is the talk of the town. So after that, while I was out in San Ramon my team lead was talking about this cool pen she just got for going to some meeting. And sure as hell it was the same damn thing. So I snapped a few pics of it:
And of course here is a video of how it opens. Seems silly maybe, but until you see it you can't appreciate why it's cool. Now moving onto things that are actually useful...I finally got a wireless mouse from a vendor, that' I've been trying to snag for like a year now. It's really tiny and cool
I'll have to put it with my other vendor schwag....I love free stuff

what a piece of crap...I can't even keep a VPN connection up on this PCS wireless hotspot here. I mean look at this small sample: Request timed out.

As seen on TV

Travling almost always ends up with some dead time, so like everyone else I end up watching TV. Now I haven't really watched infomercials for a while, so I'm out of the loop on some of the newer gimmicks. Of course there are old faithfuls still out there like the crazy old juicer guy, or that $400 stupid ladder, or even that christie brinkly/chuck norris ab board slider thingy. The reason I bring this all up is of course because I saw something I have to share. Easy Crown Molding. ...wow. I mean, I get it. I've done crown molding...it's not exactly easy. But it's also not that hard if you have some skill. But wow....stick on crown molding.

blarg

It's six o'clock in the morning here in the lovely pacific time zone, and the sun has charred the other side of the world and returned back to us. As I sit here enjoying my lovely gourmet hotel coffee prepared in a nine dollar sunbeam coffee maker I can only hope for the aspirin to engage their mysterious benefits.

I am constantly reminded as to why I usually hate to travel, and it's not the slight case of agoraphobia, but rather I believe it's from a dislike of flight and the fact that most local cuisine (aside from my own) turns my lower intestine into a slip and slide. The most ironic thing to me still is that the trip to Denver we took a few months back for Jen's B-day/proposal didn't bother me at all. I even did all the driving in a Lincoln Towncar and it didn't faze me that much. Perhaps it's a mental thing, but honestly I think it's truly a reflection of the quality of a travel companion and my faith in them. Not that I'm traveling with bad people per say, but I know what skills Jen has, and honestly I just can't see anyone else being better. However I have learned that some people should not be trusted with rental car priviledges, but that's something I won't get into on here. On positive notes, I do enjoy actually putting faces to a lot of the people I work with every day (via email) and getting to interface with them directly, if only for a few days. Once thing I do miss about working in my old department in Arlington Heights was that almost everyone was in that office. Having a team spread out across the US really creates an unusual team dynamic. Some people aren't like others, and don't live to check their email, or chat via icq. That's why it's nice when you can just go track that person down physically. But that's an ideal situation, and certainly I'm not saying we should relocate everyone into one location or anything like that. Other positive things:
- Hotel has free beer from 5:30 to 7pm (miller light and warsteiner)
- Got a really cool wireless mouse from the vendor (finally...grrr)
- Enjoy the chance to be sarcastic and mocking to my team members in person As one of them said "it's so much better when you can see his face" Well, I really need to start getting ready for my free continental breakfast (although food....not so high on my priority list right now) and my desperate attempt to get to class on time today.

On the road again

I don't really travel well. Today I spent 4 hours in a metal tube hurtling towards the rising sun, sitting next to what I can only imagine is the single broadest shouldered man in the united states. And of course he was an encroach-er. Which means as the flight went on he only got closer and closer as his fat ham like arms slowly swallowed up the armrest, like a greedy troll eating a newborn baby. And on top of that he "leaned". Let me explain something. If your in the middle seat you have limited window privileges. Take off and landing, you are allowed to stare directly out them. Any other time is simply limited to a quick glance to ensure the wing is still attached. Starting out the window at any other time is rude, and leaning forward so you can insert your head into my territorial bubble so you can get a better look at the clouds is just damn right ignorant. If your close enough to give me head then perhaps your just a little to damn close. And take a fucking mint, would that kill you? I think i'm going to have to burn this shirt when I get home cause the smell just ain't going anywhere. So here I sit in a hotel room, 2110 miles from where I want to be. Bored out of my mind and....well mostly just bored. god i'm bored.

How much abuse can a Gameboy Advance withstand

Apparently quite a bit. Although I don't recommend everyone here try to put their Gameboy Advance in their oven and turn it on.... Gotta love 2 year olds....scary thing is it still works.

Guess I should be wearing green today or something...

thing that lead people to this site never cease to amaze me sometimes. an increase in traffic this past week has had me looking for the cause. Turns out if you type "how to make a black and tan" in google it leads you to this post we made a year ago. Heck in yahoo we're number one. Go figure. I had no idea it was such an interesting topic....and of course it must be related to the whole St. Patricks day thing. At least now i can die knowing i've contributed something to mankind.

March 15, 2006

they'll name a city after us, and later say it's all our fault

I was listening to Launch and they played a song by Regina Spektor, so I did what any normal geek would do and looked for a website. There's a video for a song called "Us" on there, that's probably one of the most interesting videos I've seen in a while. And her myspace.com page features a song called Fidelity which isn't bad either. There's some promise there I tell ya. Now get off my lawn ya damn kids. Snapped a few pics of moxie being lazy in the sun yesterday:
And of course, let's not forget the door painting fun I'm having in my po man's paintbooth:
So what exactly is one of the draw backs of being raised in the 90's? I'm trying out a new facial hair thing...and every time I lookin in a mirror I think i'm trying to pull a riker. I'm totally not...damn you star treck the next generation...damn you to hell! Dammit, now i've got that beevis and butthead skit in my head where he says "number one, i order you to go take a number two".....damn..

kitsch

- I just can't get enough of the VW un-pimp my ride commercials. Just find them funny every time I see them. Here they are online, incase you haven't seen them. I swear that guy is Peter Stormare. - Happy Steak and BJ day everyone. - Nick sent me this just now, laptops with screens on the outside of them. Sort of like the whole flip phone concept, except I'd think they'd make them black and white to save battery power. Cool idea though....although case modders have been doing it for years.

March 13, 2006

Boy is my crack wet....

Yet another innuendo filled title line. Haven't posted over the weekend, and the reason was because Jen had both days off and we pretty much worked on the house most of them....well that and the fact that my computer was downstairs because I was playing F.E.A.R on the TV. We made a lot of progress with the trim work in the sewing room. It's a real pain in the ass to do stuff like this in a house your living in. For example, for every cut on the baseboard we had to haul the piece downstairs and out onto the deck where we had the miter saw. At least the quarter round is small enough to cut by hand, so I could do that in the room (hand sawing = much less sawdust than a miter saw). We still need to put a final coat of paint on it, but we're so close to being done.....
Jen suggested an idea I had originally discarded....why not paint the attic access door the same color as the wall. Previously it has been painted the same color as the ceiling...and I had thought it would be better to continue that...but in hindsight I think it looks a lot better now. And she suggested something to simple it was brilliant. Why not put weather stripping around the attic door? Now it seals better, and the latex paint won't stick to everything. And now from good to bad. We ordered a bunch of doors a while ago from Menards, and brought them home. Well so far, the first two that we've hung have all had the same problems.
1. The top hinge wasn't jigged right...it's no where near flush in the jamb and stile. I mean, it's just waaaay off, like somebody did them after drinking to much. So I've had to take them both off and chisle them out by hand.....this is both hard, and ugly to do.
2. The wood is super soft, and when I try to put the hinge back in....the screws strip even when I use hand tools. I've had to replace the screws with 1" long ones. They really should have used large screws when assembling these, imho.
3. The door stop on the hinged stile is waaay to close to the door AND isn't even straight, it seems to have been installed to close in the middle, but just fine at the top and bottom. Every one of these problems has to be addressed before you can even swing the door and think about painting. Pretty much doubling the amount of time this is taking us. It's just a huge pain in the ass, and because they were a special order I can't really return them. Not that I would necessarily...I mean do you know how hard it is to move 9 solid wood doors? Oh and the cherry on top, our basement started leaking. The basements been bone dry since we moved in, and then just a few days ago we noticed some water pooling. Originally I had though that it was leaking in from where the patio hits the house and a gutter overflows onto it, but that turned out to be a secondary issue. Thank god we had the idea to put everything on pallets in case of this when we moved in. Really saved our asses...and boxes of worthless crap.

Pain in the neck...

So last night I finished Star Ocean: Til the end of time once and for all. I beat all the optional dungeons and bosses, even Freya. Which I must say was horribly anticlimactic. Turns out if you synth enough boots of prowess to a veinslay she can't even do any damage at all. Even with ether strike. So now it's time for a change of pace from RPG to FPS. Going to finally play F.E.A.R. Which is somewhat related to an earlier post I made about taskkiller. Basicaly I finally started playing with it, only to discover that XP Home Edition doesn't come with it. Only Professional. Thankfully, I had a copy of Professional laying around and just copying the *.exe file from system32 worked fine. So now, when I want to play a game, I just click on the batch file and bam! I go from 26 process's to 14. now that's cool.

Not feeling to hot

Ever have one of those days that you just don't feel good for no reason? I have no idea why, but my stomach is killing me lately. Actually woke me up in the middle of the night for a while. Not even a serious pain, but more of a general unhappiness. Of course it didn't help that Chloe decided he needed attention at 2am. He doesn't meow much, but when he does it's the most pitiful sound you've ever heard. Always makes me worried something wrong with him....like he's going to expel a sea of vomit or something. Got a lot to do today at work, so I can't sit around here feeling ill...but man I wish I could afford to take a sick day today. On the bright side, at least I don't have to pack a lunch or anything. I'm having lunch with a vendor today (which is another reason I can't call out sick). Guess that means I should put on some clean clothes as well My stupid computer speakers keep going out. I've got this old Altec Lansing set (two satellites and a sub) that I bought like 5 years ago for $50 bucks. And at the time they were hella sweet. They're still not to bad (only really listen to music, and don't have a fancy sound card) but the right speaker keeps going MIA for no reason. And the only way to fix it is to turn them off, wait for the "pop" and then back on. I'm keeping my eyes open for a great deal on new ones...but until then I just keep turning them off and on like 5 times a day, which is a huge pain, because it's not just a normal button or switch. To turn them on and off you have to hold down two buttons at once. God would I love to get ahold of the guy who thought that was a good idea and smack him. Moving on....
- Pow Pow Power wheels. Looks like old jackass to me, I think that's Bam....but still I never saw it and it's funny as hell. - Bulk task killer in XP. If your like me, you probably shut down every program you can when playing video games (I.E. Half Life 2) to get a little extra performance out of it. I haven't played with it yet, but looks hella cool to me. - They just released Tales of Phantasia for the GBA. I know which game I'm gonna play next. And now for pictures of Gizmo:
Jen took all the lap pictures. Gizmo is pretty much assured to be in your lap within 5 seconds of you sitting down.

You know, I guess I should feel lucky that I got a bonus and all...but it's hard to be happy when they take more than 40% fucking percent of it for taxes. That's fucking bullshit.

Teddy bear Christmas Stocking

Jen does cross stitch. Jen does cross stitch pretty damn well. Jen just finished this:
Now I've been watching her do this for like 3 months on and off now, and I tell you that there is no way possible that I could do something like this. The truly scary thing is she says this is a simple pattern.

Teddy bear Christmas Stocking
