Yet another innuendo filled title line.

Haven't posted over the weekend, and the reason was because Jen had both days off and we pretty much worked on the house most of them....well that and the fact that my computer was downstairs because I was playing
F.E.A.R on the TV.
We made a lot of progress with the trim work in the
sewing room. It's a real pain in the ass to do stuff like this in a house your living in. For example, for every cut on the baseboard we had to haul the piece downstairs and out onto the deck where we had the miter saw. At least the quarter round is small enough to cut by hand, so I could do that in the room (hand sawing = much less sawdust than a miter saw). We still need to put a final coat of paint on it, but we're so close to being done.....

Jen suggested an idea I had originally discarded....why not paint the attic access door the same color as the wall. Previously it has been painted the same color as the ceiling...and I had thought it would be better to continue that...but in hindsight I think it looks a lot better now. And she suggested something to simple it was brilliant. Why not put weather stripping around the attic door? Now it seals better, and the latex paint won't stick to everything.
And now from good to bad. We ordered a
bunch of doors a while ago from Menards, and brought them home. Well so far, the first two that we've hung have all had the same problems.
1. The top hinge wasn't jigged right...it's no where near flush in the jamb and stile. I mean, it's just waaaay off, like somebody did them after drinking to much. So I've had to take them both off and chisle them out by hand.....this is both hard, and ugly to do.
2. The wood is super soft, and when I try to put the hinge back in....the screws strip even when I use hand tools. I've had to replace the screws with 1" long ones. They really should have used large screws when assembling these, imho.
3. The door stop on the hinged stile is waaay to close to the door AND isn't even straight, it seems to have been installed to close in the middle, but just fine at the top and bottom.
Every one of these problems has to be addressed before you can even swing the door and think about painting. Pretty much doubling the amount of time this is taking us.

It's just a huge pain in the ass, and because they were a special order I can't really return them. Not that I would necessarily...I mean do you know how hard it is to move 9 solid wood doors?
Oh and the cherry on top, our basement started leaking. The basements been bone dry since we moved in, and then just a few days ago we noticed some water pooling. Originally I had though that it was leaking in from where the patio hits the house and a gutter overflows onto it, but that turned out to be a secondary issue.
Thank god we had the idea to put everything on pallets in case of this when we moved in. Really saved our asses...and boxes of worthless crap.
