Dennis: The thing that first surprised me about this beer was the intense carbonation, not because it was bad but because your just not expecting it. It follows quickly by the tastes from the belgian yeast used in this beer, and the two play off each other nicely. I had expected just a regular IPA or APA, but really by the end of the bottle you really get a sense of the craft behind it. It's subtle, but I think it's because it was done really well.
Jen: In honor of our return to beer reviews, we had to do an Avery brew, something that has been cellared since the day we found we (I) were pregnant.
The scent of this ale prepares you for a sweet and fruity ale. It starts off with a nice roasted malt flavor that is accompanied by yeast flavors. This ale has a nice fruity essence to it. The body is well done, with tiny carbonation bubbles, holding true to most Belgian Ales. The end of this brew has a nice spicy but sweet taste to it. It is fairly easy to drink, but not at the top of my list for Avery Brews.
