What happens with 3 people don't clean a coffee maker for 6 years?

When I moved into my apartment many years ago I was given a Bunn coffee maker.

A few years after that when Jen moved in, my mom's coffee maker broke so I gave her mine and we used Jen's. Everyone was happy. After our mother died, my sister took it and had been using it until recently when she told me it was broken. I asked what was wrong and she said it was leaking on the sides and the coffee just didn't taste good. Of course the most likely reason for that was none of us had ever bothered to clean it.

Ever wonder what that would look like? Your in luck cause I'm trying to repair it (the gaskets were shot, which is why it was leaking) so I had to take it apart. Now this model sports a water retention pot, which basically means you get instant coffee because it always has a reservoir ready full of warm/hot water.

Yeah, I'm currently giving it a CLR bath, and I'm probably gonna give white vinegar a shot next since the CLR got it's butt kicked. The nice part is that when I called in to deal with the recall issue with this model they were really nice and are sending me a new gasket kit for free. So I'm hoping by the time I'm done all will be well and it'll be refurbed like brand new.

So the lesson here....clean your coffee maker regularly.
