Can't feel my toes....

-10, that's how cold it was when we woke up this morning. That's insane for IL around this time of year. It's so cold the windows have frost on them like a freezer that needs defrosting, and even some of the walls where we haven't finished the trimwork have ice build up. I suspect that dragging our feet on getting the trimwork down has greatly increased the "swiss cheese"-attude of this house. :/

Sunday we did a lot of little things around the house, but managed to finish both Halo 2 and Kingdom Hearts 2. Halo 2 was totally unexpected but I was super glad to finish Kingdom Hearts 2. Now I can get started on Final Fantasy 12 *drool*. Of course this leaves me without a 360 game to play...but I guess I can kill time with the Crackdown demo if I really need to. Just can't justify spending $60 bucks for Call of Duty 3 or something like that right now. Now with the baby coming. btw, that's not a complaint...just a declaration of priorities.

Well, it's finally over. Top Chef has chosen Ilan as it's winner. Personally I always was a Marcel fan, but in the end I really feel that not winning will only help him in the future. I really think that any credibility the show had to begin with was mostly stripped away after "clippergate" and Bravo's creative editing of the whole time line. I'm going to save you all my obsessive rambling on everything, like how stupid it was to bring back the evicted chef's for the finale, or how some people forgot to put some items on the speedracks.

And of course yesterday was the Superbowl, and I came across an article that addressed something Jen and I were wondering yesterday. What do they do with the loser's stuff? I personally find it hilarious that somewhere there's going to be a guy walking around in Ethiopia wearing a Chicago Bears superbowl champion shirt. Honestly, I figured they'd just burn the stuff to erase it from the face of the earth.

Though I love Ilan, I wasn't loving him the last few episodes. Both of them were SO immature! I don't know if you caught the Top Chef commentaries during the commercial breaks of the Top Design premiere, but it pretty much showed how this season's contestants were really emotionally involved.

I think part of the drama is bringing back people who have been eliminated to help you win (Bravo's formula for reality TV apparently as they've done this since the first season of Project Runway). Elia has been the only one who's been honest enough to admit how hard it was for her to help someone else win.

I will sadly admit that I have watched just about everything online you can get, and also read almost every forum post. It's sad that I got so caught up in a show that everyone says is a pale shadow of the first season.

I won't debate Ilan vs Marcel, but yeah it seems it had more of a real world vibe than one of a cooking show (god how i hate real world). I think Hell's Kitchen toes that edge sometimes but thankfully they have more of a mentor figured in Ramsey.

I think Top Chef had a decent second season, but really the personalities on the show is what makes it so memorable. The contestants on the first season were definitely more mature (in experience and in age) and were really there for the food. I know there has been an overabundance of references to "making it about the food" this season and I think that's because the editors focused more on the drama.

So, did you watch the first season of Top Chef? The reunion episode really captures the essence of the entire season. ("I'm not your bitch, bitch!") I was kinda surprised they didn't have a reunion episode for this season though. Maybe because it would've been a verbal beat-down on Marcel. For the record, I'm indifferent about Marcel. Personality-wise, I think he's an elitist. As a cook, his approach was definitely on the cutting edge.

Ramsey rocks!

I watched the first season and really thought that it was better. I liked the second season, but overall I don't think they picked the two best at the end (I think it should have been Sam and Marcel, even though I really don't like Marcel, he is all about the food). I hope they make a third season, but try to get more seasoned, mature cooks and not people who think it is funny to hold someone down to shave off his Vegeta (sp?)hair!
