scream 19
For the past couple of weeks I've been working maintenance windows for my job. Which usually consists of me waking up at 2am and hopefully getting back to sleep around 5am.
Twice now, while doing these, somebody picked up the phone in my house. They never say anything, and I never heard anything, but our new phones display a "LINE IN USE" message when an extension is picked up (as opposed to our old phone which did not).
Needless to say this has freaked me out.
The first time it happened I ended up walking around the house at 3am in my boxers, turning on every light (inside and out) and checking every room. Including the basement....which doesn't even have a phone extension in it. Of course I found nothing
Just now, it happened again while I was moving 16k customers in a migration...exactly at 3am CST. It took me a few minutes. And assuming it isn't one of the cat's making phone sex calls, I think I finally figured out what it was.
Our DVR. It's programmed to update its self every night at 3am...of course it should be able to download it's program guide via satellite, but I know it has to dial up and "check in with mommy" for not freakin' reason every night or else it pops up this retarded "you must be connected or we'll charge you 5 bucks" warning (probably to stop somebody racking up the PPV movies and just never plugging it in).
Stupid farkin' DVR.
