Port Edwards really sucks lately
This is a post by Jen:
I feel like I am doing the community a service by letting everyone know about this restaurant.
Last night Dennis , his sister (Terri), his nephew (Tom) and girlfriend (Jen) and I went out to eat. It was one of her favorite places to go and I had never been. The place: Port Edwards ( »www.portedward.com ). Now, being from Maine, I love good seafood, so I figured it would be fantastic. Well, it didn't start off great, but I hoped it would improve. Our server Holly would have been better suited working in a McDonald's (oh wait the customer service there is better). The only thing that stayed full was our water glasses and that is because the busser was in charge of that. After we sat down, we ordered a bottle of wine. 10 minutes later it arrived. We needed another minute to decide on appetizers and for the men to decide what to drink. 10 minutes later she came back, asked what we wanted for apps but never bothered to ask what else they wanted to drink, so Dennis spoke up. 5 minutes later she returned with the drink and said that the apps would be another few minutes. We added another app (which I think confused her poor little brain cell). 10 minutes later we got 2 out of 3 apps which was expected since we ordered the other one later. Finally got the third app. About 10 minutes after finishing them, she came back to take our order (wine bottle now empty). We weren't quite ready to order so I asked for ONE minute. 10 minutes later she returned to take our order. She never asked if we wanted something else to drink (good thing we had water!) She returned with the salads. She dripped salad dressing on Tom, but being a nice guy, he didn't complain. While Terri was in the bathroom, we asked both the hostess (who had a broomstick up her *#@) and the waitress for a birthday dessert that had this firecracker thingy in it. I was also finally able to order another bottle of wine and Dennis got a Guinness (which was served out of a bottle and she poured it into the glass like it was a Coke. 25 minutes later our food arrived. My fish was gross and I am pretty sure it was under cooked. I sent it back and didn't want anything in return (I had lost my appetite, plus you really should never order something else after you send food back, you don't know what they may do to it). Dennis had ordered well done Filet Mignon. It came out medium-well (he doesn't really like any pink in his steak and this had pink). Terri got a NY strip medium, on the rare side. It was just plain rare. Jen got a small portion of Walleye and Tom got Steward's Choice Bouillabaise (a pot full of seafood). After eating sub-par food, Holly returned (at least 30 minutes later). The busser had already boxed up any leftovers and she dropped off the desert menus. I expected that since we had already ordered the b-day one and she wanted to see if we wanted anything. Nobody really wanted anything, so I asked for the check (thinking that this would be the sign to bring the b-day desert with sparkler). BUT, instead 10 minutes later she returned with just the check. We gave her our credit card because we just wanted to get out of there at this time. At this point I am sooooooo pissed that I am in tears. Everyone thought that I should complain, but I knew that if I went up to the manager, I may just get arrested for giving him a black eye and limp that would always remind him of what a crappy experience I had. So Dennis decided to speak with Holly to try to resolve things with no confrontations. But instead she got all defensive and said "Don't leave a tip, I will get the manager". Which is what she preceded to do. A few minutes later Dennis had to get up to go talk to the manager. He offered a gift certificate and Dennis told him that we would never use it because we were never stepping a foot back into that place again. In the end, he took 20% off the bill and we didn't leave a tip. We lost 2 1/2 hours of our life that we can never get back.
So, NEVER EAT AT PORT EDWARDS.
Long John Silvers has better seafood than that %$#@hole. Dennis:
Plus aside from getting sick to my stomache later, they price gouge on their wine. $38 dollars for a bottle of Ruffino Aziano Chianti that I can buy down the street for $8.99?!? That's just obscene.
Also, they have no draft beer at there bar, hence the server pouring me a guinness at the table....from a freakin' bottle! Not even the 14oz can's, but from an 11.2 oz bottle that I just paid $4 fucking dollars for. Oh and their fries were nasty disgusting things. Over just really fundamentally dissapointing...but forgeting the stupid b-day sparkly thing is just unforgivable....you can't fix fuckups like that ever. I really thing managment at Port Edwards has spiraled downwards...they really need Gordon Ramsey!

A very accurate account of the dinner. I THANK YOU for a WONDERFUL evening desite Holly, Founders Day and sub standard food. We were all together on my birthday thanks to the both of you!
Just an added note-
they should have had someone on duty to clean the bathrooms that they ALLOWED the public from the FESTIVAL to trash. You can't walk out of Port Ed's for under $75.00 for a decent dinner for 2. We had 5. The 2 bottles of wine were $88.00 alone. Think a clean bathroom was too much to expect?
