On today's show we answer the question: "Dr. Science, what would it be like to paint a house if you lived on the surface of the sun?". I know the temp high was only 92 degree's, but damn.....4 hours in the sun damn near killed me. We've been working on replacing some of the outside wooden trim that was rotting or just otherwise so poorly maintained that it was unrepairable. Here's some pictures to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:
Been like that since we moved in....we did all the construction of replacing the actual boards last weekend. What we did though was paint them in the garage first 3 coats, plus primer....that shit'll survive a nuclear war now. Obviously somebody had repaired the corner boards once already. The problem is they replaced them with crappy ones, and didn't paint them before putting them up...so they just kinda crapped out right away (aside from them being on wrong anyways) and as an added bonus, they didn't put plywood every behind. So they basically made a very nice bee get away and perfect nest location. In short, what i'm trying to convey is that the person who did this was a moran. But don't take my word for it....
So after cleaning off that crap we removed the super long side trim board, rebuilt up the corner supports and put the new boards up. Then we caulked the heck out of everything, pulling off the old stuff as we went. The next weekend two coats of paint were slapped on, and you can see the difference Old / New:
The thing that scares me most is I didn't even get a tan....
