What is an MRE?
So here's something pretty cool and stupid of me.
Jen got back today from Ireland, and when she was over there she snagged a few military MRE's for me to eat.
I've always been fascinated with the entire concept of MRE's since I was in middle school. The idea that a full meal (physically, and nutritionally) could be contained in such a small and efficient space is just fascinating to me. Some of the benfits are:
- No refridgeration or special storage, they just go on a shelf
- small and lightweight (especially compared to can's)
- incredible shelf life! (5 years plus easily)
- all food is pre cooked, and all you need is in it Here's a pic of the outside and inside:

That green thing is what's called a "heater", basically it's a one time use bag for heating the main entree up to 200 degrees. This isn't necessary to eat it, but it is a nice feature to eat warm food compared to cold. The cool thing is it only uses water as the catalyst, and not much water at that.
So I just thought that was pretty cool. I tried the "grilled chicken" one for lunch. It's not the greatest tasting thing in the world....heck, none of it is. But you know what, it's still pretty damn cool. If this was all I had to eat, I couldn't be to happy, but fuel is fuel and this beats eating bugs and twigs.
Oh and the gifts just keep coming, Jen also grabbed some beer for me while she was in Cyprus:
THEY'RE HUGE! It's like some type of European 40oz ghetto thing going on. Pretty cool though ;)
Oh yeah, and I upgraded from 2.51 to 2.66 Moveable Type, so if your that spammer that tried to post a comment in every post i've ever made last night you can kiss my hairy mother fucking, son of a bitch, rosey red ass! Oh yeah, and I banned your IP.....dipshit.

Good ole MRE. I spent 6 years in the USMC hating those.
There is a valid reason the US Military has alternate meanings for those initials.
Meal Reluctant to Exit
Meal Rejected by Ethiopia
I do like the new charcoal activated heater. Shows up on IR, but not in standard night vision devices.
did you get the package with the koolaid and tabasco sauce?

Yup, It had the "powedered drink" and tabasco sause in it.
Actually I had the Beef Ravioli one the other day...and I have to say it was actually damn good. I was shocked honestly. I'm sure I'd get damn sick of it after a while, but it wasn't bad at all.
Those charcol heaters are cool :) And that "meal reluctant to exit" might confirm a few suspicions :-P

Thanks for your help unloading the Uhaul.
So how is the beer? I guess beer from St Louis can't compare to Jen bringing beer from Ireland.
